Last night around 3am, I finished off my short film script.  The title is "What Could Happen In Four Hours."  I sent it off to a few friends for some feedback..Now, it's time for a small break.. but I have the urge to continue on my feature.. It must be done by Dec...of this year!!

Here a short film from my friend Jaime Ryan Heintz. I'm quite delighted that he finished his short film. My camera was used, which also made me happy because it's usually is some corner just collecting dust.. not this time NOOO.. and the look and the potential of the Kodak film that he used, gives me ideas for future projects... enjoy !!

A little bit of help from a friend .. .

September 6, 2009.

Yesterday, I worked on my poster for my feature Betty I Am... And, one of my friends that has better knowledge on photoshop and his own artistic views.. Came out with a few concepts that are very good.. The choices got a lot tougher because I like them all.. I know already which one I'm going to choose. sorta.... But, I'm going to chill for a bit and see what comes out from this website where the posters choices are being talked about.   To see what opinions are giving towards the posters.. and talked about.. This weekend, still working on the short, hopefully it will be done by or on Monday, which is tomorrow.. soooooo... I better get working..

A poster for betty...

September 5, 2009.

It came to my attention that I don't really have a poster for my film Betty I am.. Just recently I started working on PhotoShop. .. still very, very lost!!  I had a few ideas.. may be in the coming days, i'll throw more stuff up on the blog..

Fuzzy views

September 4, 2009.

Distractions, or the things that keeps me from writing the stuff that I want to write.  It's a friday night in Los Angeles, 11pm and it's 77 degrees.  In my house, it feels like more like 99 degrees.  At the moment, I'm trying to wrap up a short film script that will hopefully be in production in the coming months.   Keeping my fingers cross for other reasons, one namely a better job.  Because of a economic situation, my focus seems to have falter a bit.  My writing time has increased in a way, but it's mostly been scattered between a featured film script and a short.
Distraction, can keep a writer from finishing any project.  In the past, deadlines were not met, and from there...It's just a downward spiral affect around your character.  When you're inspired or in a good mood, writing should be an easy thing, sorta.  But, the environment around you affects how you write.  From bad to good, anything can alter your imagination.  If you're at ease with yourself, the script is more clear to understand, or where it is going.
The picture above, was my first ever using photo shop.. seems easy...

Short film in the process.... again..

August 29, 2009.

Working on a short script that hopefully will be up and running in the coming months.  The script is an all male cast with the exception of bystanders.  But, the style of the story takes me back in my theatre days.  Where the rules do not apply and just have a good time writing a short script.  My recent writings, there were times that I didn't have fun.  Always making sure, that it made some reasonable sense or the genre would not be up to par with me.  Over thinking a scene of what would lie ahead for the coming scenes.   I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy my previous works.  But, the thinking process took a toll on me.  When I was in theatre, my imagination was more out of control, and making the actors do more outrageous things.  Not, realizing that I had boundaries that I couldn't cross.  And, I did cross them, seeing how far I can push those boundaries, which was fun to me.  I had actors that were willing to go with me to the madness of my imagination.  With that, I got into this writing business, with early success, because I had fun!
As for this short script or film, laughter filled the room because of the scenarios I would think of.  Now that's when you're having fun writing something.  The pictures of the females has nothing to do with my upcoming short film.  But, I'm thinking about doing another affordable feature film.  But, a big but, financing will of course will play a huge role if that happens or not.  I have a 16mm camera just sitting in my house waiting for something to come up and a chance to use it.  The outfits of the females, well, let's just say these are all a small glimpse of the character make up of future projects...

hair or not to hair

August 15, 2009.

Hair is one of the most important characteristics into making a character in my scripts.  A certain look with a hairstyle is just an ensemble of things going into making a film.  A lot of questions go into asking what the character is about.  Why is her hairstyle this way?  Is she copying someone, does she only look good with short hair?  Is she escaping from something?  ect..  Knowing now how a future character will act, or live, feels good.. this hairstyle is just an inspiration.  Some may think is just a normal hairstyle, but NO!  The way her hair hides her face.. For some reason I really like that.. Something to think for any upcoming projects that I want to do..Still being anchored down with a previous project, which is still a key to open the door to a better life and start doing the stories that I want to tell, want to shoot, want to direct.. It's a matter of time.  It also seems like things in my environment are getting tougher to deal with.   Also, to write the things you want to write or trying to get something on paper or computer.  A question; do you have a healthy mental state at this moment?  Stress is also an enemy of writing.... just another day or night... bad writing is just a start...

Short film in the process..

Aug 13, 2009.

Sitting back and doing my daily routine on the internet, i'll let you use your imagination for that... I found this photo of a girl posing her fashion style or "thing."  Everything about her outfit gives me a result of wanting to do something quick.  I can hear talk a certain way, her persona is made up already in my mind.  Her hair style brings out a mysterious element and her clothes are beyond a statement in my mind.. Just another inspiration of a main character that I want to make in a short film or feature film.

A little bit from the past.

August 02, 2009.

Last night was a little bit of time to reflect where it all started.  Nine years ago, (it's been that long) I attended a community college where I took an interest in writing and directing.   The first class that I took was theatre appreciation.  From there on, I really appreciated the art of storytelling, the affect it had on audience.  The tone or powerful message a play or story would have on anyone that would enjoy  it.

Again about last night, I took in an evening watching a play called "Anna in the Tropics" by Nilo Cruz.  It was directed by a buddy of mines Eddie Ruiz, where again I meet in community college and acted in one my early plays about abortion.  Which, was very funny at the time and may be still funny to some people with a certain type of humor.   The play went smoothly, and was impressed by another friend of mines; Sergio Villareal jr., which again I meet in community college and also acted in a play of mines that gave me the confidence that I can write material that people would appreciate.   Sergio played a character "Cheche", which was my favorite of the play.  It's not because he's my friend and all, but his performance was really good.  Something about him, with the right character, he can give out a great performance.   I would like to work with Eddie and Sergio soon.   I know we can make it work..
After that, Old Town Pasadena,  attended a quick bar stop called the "Old Pub."  I saw a couple of music bands perform.. I kinda forgot their names, but I did have a good time listening to them.   I really enjoy the night..Now... getting back to work... somewhat..

The Limits of Control

August 1, 2009.

Last Thursday, I went to the New Beverly Cinema to watch a new film by Jim Jarmusch; The Limits of Control.  The pace and style of the film were right up my alley, which is slow. The pace was so slow to the point where the viewer could actually feel what the main character was going through. I'm in no way going to break this film down by points. But, i will say that I could understand why this film did not have a wide release. The truth, I don't really recall this film ever opening in Los Angeles. Because of the pace and style of the film, regular film audience would not have the patience and open minded enough to give this film a chance.. This leads to my film, Betty I am. During the film, I starting thinking about pace or tempo.. I figured out some edits that would make my film a little more pace friendly to the audience. Plus, the story of my film will be much more refine. And, hopefully by the end of the year my film will be presented somewhere.. Still working on that, every single day.

Getting caught up..

Just getting by and getting ready to write some stuff tonight.. Had an interesting night last friday.. Attended the Crusaders & Haters party at Royal/T..  brought to you by Zippercut .  The party was pretty amazing.. The more I go to these events, the more i see it provides a playground for people to show their creative/crazy/inspiring  side, which also helps me write.. Writing is life..

Wishing in the future, I'll be able to purchase some kind of video camera.  Unfortunately, for the way things look financially for me at this point of my life, It'll be a while.   I would sure love to post videos or take awesome pictures of my daily life and provide a better idea of the things that inspire me to write.   But, the highlight for me this passed week was a screening of  The Warriors.. A cult classic.  Not only there was a screening,  but also a special guest appearance of Ajax (James Remar) Mercy (Deborah Van Valkenburgh)  Cochise (David Harris).  The interview of the three of them was very informative and so interesting for someone like me.  They basically talked about all of the side stories that went on during the making of the film.   Also, delighted to hear about how Walter Hill directed his actors which also I gain some knowledge.  No, I'm not going to mimic his style or come anything close to his style..  I direct my own way .. Hopefully in the future I'll get into talking about directing films or actors.. Not being afraid to get your vision done.  Not getting too sidetrack from this topic... This was a great night..

Lately, I been taking a B & W Photography Class and I love it!  So, I'm always looking for opportunities to take pictures of the happenings of Los Angeles.  Tuesday, I was a victim of the Nike-Lebron-James picture taking P.R. move.  There was this small mini concert in culver city where a J-pop star (Kanon Wakeshima)  was going to make an appearance for an album release party type of fiasco.  Believing this was an awesome opportunity to take some photos and practice the art of photography. . After only taking one picture which you see below... A hand grabs the front of my camera, a female sony worker (yes, a sony product) tells me with authority that I was not allowed to take photos of Kanon.   To make things short, after three songs ..the concert was over.. .   The performance was very entertaining.. Another reason that I  wanted to attend, its not very often you see someone using a cello instrument in a rock/pop type of act... And, just one more reason to throw out there.. I have a script in the works where it involves a female singer.. And, just seeing how things are after the show.  It gave me a great perspective of the aftermath, clean up, crew working to strike down.  How Kanon  Wakeshima exits the building with her handlers.. It was quite helpful.

Revamping the blog... .

The picture was taken from a website that offer images of inspiration....It just gives me mix emotions...So, I haven't been doing this for a while, and I haven't been writing the amount that I would like to. Hopefully, with this, it would kinda push me and get some things done...

Unexpected Fun, kinda?

This is a not so awesome entry, on writing terms, but the mind is really scatter.........So, this past week was a little learning experience, by talking and just by talking can improve on writing your dialogue. Picking up the little things, phrases or some slang words can be adapted to your machine of Dialogue making ( I just made that up, it doesn't exist).

This past friday, I attended this little function called CIRQUE DU SO LAME, it was held at Royal/T. It was an awesome/weird experience, naked clowns were walking around! A lot of individuals were dressed up in circus attire, sexy to creative by any means. The main attraction of the event was ADULT SWIM David Liebe Hart from the TIM and ERIC AWESOME SHOW, not bad for a night. Their comedy is raw, and way, way out there. I'll get into Royal/T soon, to me, it kinda deserves it's own post. Had some simple breakfast there on sunday, and ponder about my doing's over the script that I'm currently working on. Also, tried submitted a story line to a Manga Distributer, I don't really know what's going to come out of that, but it is a kind of writing job that I would like to have. The Japan Film Festival is in town, I attended the screening of Evangelion 1.0, a anime feature film. I will be attending two more films throughout week. Finally, I attended an art show at the Billy Shire Fine Arts. The art work displayed at the show was unique, and great. The several conversations that I had, gave me some great stuff in my dialogue machine. As for the script, it grew to six more pages.. so the finish line is almost here...kinda.

Eating, fun and script!

Checking bases.  Finally, got a lot of things done from my to do list, which always brings me up and more lively to life.  In the food department.  This new place open by my job.. LC B.B.Q &  Burgers.   I was highly impressed by the quality of the food.  They make their own burger patties, their own!  Even though I had trouble fitting the burger in my mouth, it was still delicious and ranks up there with my choices of one of the best burgers in Los Angeles.  I still haven't tried their whole menu, but, soon..  The script has finally gotten some life, I found ways to make it more unique or something around the lines of kinda different from other films or stories... But that's asking for a lot though..  Took some time off this week to catch up on talking life tips with a friend while watching a Los Angeles Laker game.  Reflecting on your own personal life and as well as day dreams,  gives you a small charge in the creative department needed for this script or some kind of creative work.   Soon as I'm done with the script, I'll give a small outline of the script/story in pictures.  The pictures or photos give out an idea of the many influence for this script that I been working for three months.  Finally played SF4!  Street Fighter has been a huge impact in my life since age 9 or so, well, considering in gaming world experience.  Was greeted by the great hospitality of hijaktaffairs & drunknconfessions this weekend to get my chance to play SF4.  This upcoming week, is the Japanese Film Festival, buying my tickets tomorrow.. So may be I should have something up in the coming days.  Or, not....

Inspiration.. .

I heard this song on 88.9fm late night last sunday.. . something about it, just have to listen to it and decide what's going to come out of it on script form... .

So today.. The sound mix of Betty I Am started!  The location is around the Howard Hughes Center, entering the building thinking what's ahead.  After raiding their office fridge, with the sugar rush to bounce off the walls, I knew I was ready for a small session.   Four hours past, the result was two scenes were finished, sorta.....  And, for the rest, it's a work in progress.  The style of the film makes a bit difficult for my sound guy, the sound presents a challenge, I was told so.......I'll see  how things go after two weeks... . I still need to get this script done... .. stress relief needed soon...

end of the week and no push

I'd needed to get back to work, while I was at work!.. I haven't written anything of late... When writing, or attempting to write...  Kinda weird saying it.. but, "you have to feel it".   My life's up's and down's have kept me away from my little black book where my script is being done.   Finally, got my mind a little clear... back to it.... When writing, I often get unsure about what I wrote, so I usually start all over again..   This script has too much of my personality, sooo (those who know me,    yesh!!) .... Which means that I need to settle down  and get back to what make sense and follow a strict story structure.... (This entry was in broken thoughts) Does your personality ever reflect off your work???

Working while at work

Ready to add another page to my script which... This is how it works.. write it by hand to technically make it my first draft then transfer it to my laptop final draft program thingy to make my second draft... .. One good thing about my job; I usually do most of my writing on my lunch breaks.. So.. this is how it works.. (Again) Drive, drive, think and think while driving to figure out script plot points, causes, character wants, what's funny, does it make sense... So, when lunch time rolls around, I have a good grasp on what's going on with the script!!   Lot's of cream and lot's sugar...

inglorious bastards

Something to look forward to this year.. . Tarantino has been working on this script for a while..
I'm hoping that it's good.. but.. from looks of this trailer.. it should...

Friday Reflection

Well, we're in the middle of the month and I'm at page 54 and a half of my latest script. Don't know the title yet,  hopefully I'll hear it in a conversation or something.  My deadline was suppose to be on friday.   And, Sunday was going to be a day to clean up the script, spelling errors, or just plain errors. .  But, the time and quality wasn't there...So....The day before, decided to take the day off and knew that i was not going to make it...  I needed to enjoy at least one day out of the month.   If you call enjoyment of starting off with the breakfast special at 7/Eleven, it sounds correct.  Something about their coffee and food, it may resemble fast food rejects, but it seems okay in my book, because  I'm on the go in the morning drive of my job.  During my mini breaks of day dreaming at my job, I'd figured out how the climax of my script is going to occur.  I added a special hobby to one of the characters and it fits in perfectly for the make up of the final act.  Once off from work.  I headed home to dress up, and met up with a few friends for an art gallery opening at one of places where I usually do some of my writing and at times other viewing pleasures; Royal/T.
I was more than impressed with the whole layout of the function. With spending time getting my RSVP cleared away, just by entering the place, I knew it was going to be a good night.  French maids in the whole facility roaming around giving out free alcohol and small eating portions of many kinds .
I appreciated the art work, some of the conversation's of the night.. I found myself talking to a film student from USC, her name doesn't come to mind.  It would of have been more interesting if the conversation would have lasted a little longer,  for some reason, it didn't...  Random dude, we started talking.. asking me some questions that I couldn't answer, but tried my best.  Found out that you don't need a liquor license at a public event if the booze is free.. good to know, never know... it sounds like that may come in handy soon.  As I double fist some alcohol and listen to the Dj playing apparently some underground hip hop. ..  I just kept on thinking about the many reasons that I couldn't make the deadline...or i guess a way to feel better because I couldn't make the deadline.
Guessing it was wishful thinking, having a full time job and writing a feature script in short period of time.  Around 9pm or so, the alcohol was sinking in, and my crazy self started to come out...I received a phone call/text from a friend that was waiting for me at the Nuart for a midnight movie.  Knowing that, started drinking two bottles of fiji water... Needed to get my act together to jump on the road soon... The water was okay, but the bottles were awesome.

Never was a really big fan of this beer until recently... The sad part I'm not really big on beer.. But, from talking or tasting...The beer world wouldn't be a bad place to visit..

Don't know what was the inspiration, but it worked.. . From what I got from the piece was that everyone has those mood swings ready to take over and cause some of kind of conversational topic for other people.

This was one activity that I did throughout the event.  Much fun. And very happy for the few moments that words we're exchange, no meaning, but they were exchange.

Before the midnight flick..GHOSTBUSTERS!!  We hit Cafe 50's for dinner, and trying to become alert and ready for a, have fun film time.  From the pictures from the wall, women and their bodies sure changed from what's acceptable in the entertainment business..

The burger is always ordered medium well...

The wait was okay to get in the doors...During it, was still thinking ahead about the script..Even with a friend keeping me company..It sometimes dominated my mind.. I guess.. That's how it works me for now or until something comes along with a way of finishing the script..

As for the movie itself ..  I haven't seen it for ten years or so... It was well worth it.... There were so many jokes that I understood this time around... Got home.. I stared at the script for a little.. then to bed... I'm no poet or anything.. but this would be a good spot to end this with a poem.. wishful thinking.. ..
